Bette: “So what all did Dr. Wilson say?”

Tina: “Oh my God, that’s right. I haven’t told you. Well, she said she was glad we finally found a donor so she put me on these pills.”

Bette: “Pills? What for?”

Tina: “Well, since we’re using one of your eggs my body won’t be preparing to have a baby as it would if I released my own egg. So these pills help prepare my uterus for carrying a child.”

Bette: “Oh, I never thought about it, but that does make sense.”

Tina: “Yeah, and you have to go soon to donate your eggs.”

Bette: “Babe, with all that just happened at the CAC, I don’t know if it’s a good idea to take much more work off. How long do I have?”

Tina: “Not long. Dr. Wilson explained to me that timing is very crucial once we get started. I may have to be at her clinic at least every other day and then possibly every day the further along we go.”

Bette: “Why?”

Tina: “Because they have to check the progress of my uterus to see when it will be ready to conceive. Then there’s only like a few hour window to actually implant the fertilized egg.”

Bette: “Will she be doing it?”

Tina: “She’s set us up with another doctor in her clinic that deals more with family planning, but she’ll still be working with us.”

Bette: “Well, how long am I going to be out of work?”

Tina: “Not more than a few hours.”

Bette: “Really? That soon?”

Tina: “Yeah, how long did you think it took?”

Bette: “I don’t know…..I’m not sure how all of this works.”

Tina laughs, “You really need to get more involved. The worst part is the needle.”

Bette’s eyes widen with fear, “Needle? Nobody mentioned a needle.”

Tina: “Baby, calm down…how did you think they were going to do it? It’s not like a man donating sperm….you can’t just ejaculate an egg.” She laughs uncontrollably.

Bette rolls her eyes, “I know that. I’m not stupid, but you know, I hate shots.”

Tina: “I know, but like I said you can still go back to work afterwords so it can’t be that bad. They just use the needle to extract the eggs from your ovaries.”
