Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part Three

    Alice
wasn’t the type of person who was easily embarrassed but when she did
feel that way it was on a mammoth scale. It was I wish I could crawl
under a rock and die embarrassment, always accompanied with how can I
ever show my face in public again shame. For the past month Alice had
been feeling this way all day, every day, from wake until sleep. She
wasn’t sure why or how but one day she woke up and realized all she had
done in the span of time right before, during, and after her break up
with Dana. The memories attacked her like some horrible monster she
couldn’t escape from. Except it wasn’t a monster, it was herself, and
it was hard to run from yourself.

Granted, you could try and you could try hard enough to manage to do it
fairly successfully but to completely succeed was pretty much
impossible. Alice’s method for running from herself that gave her that
blessed partial success was a simple and time honored one.

    She worked and she drank.

Now she didn’t drink alone in the way that signified she was slipping
into an alcoholic stupor. The ones where you wallowed in all the wrongs
you had done and carried on deep meaningful conversations with your
bottle of Johnny Walker Red. No, thank god, Alice didn’t do that.

The drinking took place in clubs and bars, ones far from her usual West
Hollywood scene because she finally realized all she had done. How she
had treated Dana and her friends just so very horribly and Alice
couldn’t find the strength to face them and try to apologize. It was
easier to let time pass and hope her absence would make them feel more
kindly towards her when she finally did feel it was right to apologize.
To do it right now would just feel too hurried, too fake, as if she
hadn’t really taken time to appreciate all she had done.

Friends were important to Alice because pretty much all her life
friends were all she had. Her mother had been too busy with her work,
her father had been too busy with her mother and then avoiding her
mother after the divorce, and her brother and sister had just been too
busy for her. What family technically was never held a special place in
Alice’s heart. To her, as cheesy as it sounded, her friends were her
    family.

    1. Thanks for such an endearing Helena, its far too easy to get bogged down by the cannon Helena but your tale takes me far away from that and into the realm where I quite like her and the lovely Alice together. Keep up the tension and please never stop giving us loyal and loving fans more!!!

    2. can i say that i love that you use the right terminolgy in the right settings. Seems like such a small thing, but it isn’t. Like a tennis match, not game. Helena’s quarters, not room. You always make the right reference in the right place. And the details do not go unnoticed, thanks – it makes for such great flow and reading.
A human catch and a human reeling it in – wonderful analogy with the fishing and the pending hook-up. loved it dreiser.

    3. So much sexual tension!!!!!!!! Its driving me crazy. Both you and Sulky still have not even let Alice and Helena kiss!!! Someone let my girls be happy please! By the way, I love you, you are the greatest writer ever. I wait for like two weeks for this story, its kills me but when it gets here… bliss. Keep it up babe and thanks.

    4. It’s so true you and Sulky are killing me, please I need to read happy helacious. Mmmm I just wrote that? Well in my danish heart there is some place to this ship too, and it’s all your fault :P . Thanks.
