Waiting Room:

Tina had paced back and fourth for the longest time just simply waiting. Alice didnt bother to tell Tina to sit down and relax, she understood that was a small way that Tina handled things.

Shane hated hospitals, they just werent comfortable . She felt worried about Bette and wondered silently if she was going to be OK. Tina and Bette didnt deserve this, god had already put them through enough.

Kit sighed and gave Alices hand a slight squeeze. She was growing very impatient, were the ***** was this doctor. What was going on with Bette?

Diana sat quietly in thought. How did this happen? Why did it have to happen? A million questions were swimming through her head as well as everybody when the doctor finally arrived.

Dr. Harris stood and looked down at her clipboard . She called out Anyone here for Bette Porter? Everyone stood up and stopped there movement. That would be us Shane pointed out. The doctor walked slowly to them and introduced her self . Hello ladies Im Dr. Harris, and I was the main doctor that took care of Bette when she was in the ER. She paused as she shook hands with everyone. Do you mind if we all step into the hallway were it is a tad bit more private? Dr. Harris asked. Nobody said anything so much as a mumble. They just wanted to know how Bette was doing.

Here came the bad part , telling everyone news they didnt want to hear. when Bette came in we didnt know the extent of her injuries, till we took her to the O.R and got her test results back.. Her voice trailed off. Tinas face grew with concern and fear. Why was this doctor holing back? Shane looked around fearfully at Alice and Kit. Diana knew she had to ask the question, for everybodys sake. What were the extent of her injuries? Dr. Harris took a deep breath before she began. She had internal bleeding in the chest wall between her ribcage as well as several broken ribs, this can cause friction between the lungs and the ribcage resulting in death if not taken care of quickly, in Bettes case we fixed it because the surgery was a success , just not the broken ribs. She paused to wait for the shock so wash over their faces.

Is that all? Tina asked forcefully, fearing more bad news. In her case she was right. Also Bette sustained major damage to her brain, the memory part of her brain, causing a certain amount of memory loss She felt sadness wash over her as she waited for their reactions.

What exactly dose that mean? Tina asked as she felt tears welding in her eyes her blonde hair falling lightly in her face from frustration .

Well actually it all depends on Bette she may remember some things, others she may not ,or there is a strong possibility that she might not remember anything but there is indeed memory loss due to the impact her head took in the accident. Im sorry Dr. Harris said as she brushed her black hair out of her face. Tina instantly started crying ,a loud agonizing cry, Kit tried to calm her down even with her own tears, nothing could get Tina to calm down. Tina slid to the floor crying T, shes gonna be ok, you have to slow down your going to upset the baby Kit said gingerly rubbing Tinas back. Alice began to cry too as she went into Dianas embrace Its ok AL. Diana said as she hugged Alice fiercely. This isnt fair, Shane thought as she looked down at a broken hearted Tina, the pain of seeing Tina reached into her soul .

Dr. Harris sighed , when her beeper went off. She looked down and sighed again recognizing the number, this line of work was beginning to take its toll on her. OK guys I just got a page from the OR, saying Bette is in ICU recovery . Shes not out of the woods yet things still have a chance to change, lets wait a while before we test her memory ok? She asked hopefully. Everybody simply nodded, as Shane thank her.

I will be the primary doctor thats going to take care of Bette, and I will stop in a little later to check up on her, and I will also have a nurse show you her room. Dr. Harris shook everyones hand even Tinas after she pulled her self together. And she turned and left

The news left everybody reeling , all of them going through their own personal *****. Shortly later a nurse found them to take them to Bettes room . Getting there required to go down a long hallway one that seemed to go on forever. Tina felt like it was the longest moments in her life with her own thoughts. Will she remember me ? Will she remember her self or anybody else? What about our child? Tina felt helpless.

The hallway finally came to a end. OK here is her room, only one person is aloud in at a time A Nurse replied, and walked away. Tina go ahead and go in Alice gestured to the door. Tina took a deep breath and walked to the door with her friends supportive smiles.

She walked in and was met with a small beeping sound. She looked for Bette and was met with a small frail body laying on the bed. She came closer and found it was Bette, she gasped at how she looked. Bette laid there with a small tube in her nose to help her breath, she had several IVs connected to her body and to machines. Tina looked up at one monitoring Bettes heartbeat. It was strong, which was something Tina expected. She was amazed at how pale she looked, her features were usually creased with concentration and control. But now she was relaxed. Tina took a seat and reached out to touch Bettes hand. She let the tears flow freely once again. I love you Bette, and I want you to know this is our child Tina took Bettes hand and placed it on her belly. We cant do this with out you. Tina said as she put her head down next to Bette on the bed and let what little energy she had left lead her to sleep.
