Something Clever – (Chapter: Six Years)
Six years! Six years we were best friends, she drops me after six years and when I finally try to move on here she is calling my phone. I push ignore. One new voicemail. I brace myself before I call my voicemail and listen to her voice. Just as I expected, she’s apologizing again, and I wonder if she really means it. Sorry, let me back up. My name is Ashley Davies and I am speaking of my former best friend, Spencer Carlin, the girl I used to be in love with. Well, I wish I could say used to, I still do but now, I wish I could just be happy with the one I’m with. Actually I have always wished that. I so desperately wish that I could be over her, but let’s get serious she’s far too amazing for that. She has got to be the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes upon. Her blue eyes pierce right through mine and I can never look away from her. Her most subtle touches send chills throughout my body, and her intentional touches send my body on fire. And speaking of bodies, Spencer’s is absolutely perfect. She has a hold over me, she always has, and I am almost positive she knows it. I can NEVER say no to her and anything she wants I’ll do for her. Now not to say I’m like her bitch or anything … I just love her that much.
Well if I love her so much why am I not answering her calls right? She ditched me. I don’t mean left me hanging when we were supposed to hit up the mall, I mean she left me. We were the best of friends, attached at the hip and over a period of a few months, she disappeared. She met new people and suddenly I was no one. She had always been a bit selfish, taken me for granted, expected me at her becking call but my love for her had always overruled any of her mistakes. That’s what I looked at actions as, mistakes, not flaws. I refused to believe that her flaws were a part of her personality. Took me forever to realize it and now that I do I want nothing to do with her. Well, my brain wants nothing to do with her. My heart wants her more than anything. I know I shouldn’t, I know that I have the two most amazing people chasing me and I love them both with all my heart. Too bad I will never be IN love with either of them. I don’t think anyone could take the place of Spencer in my heart.
With that said, I decide to call her back.
As it’s ringing I try to plan everything out in my head. I prepare myself not to take any of her shit.
“ASHLEY!! Hi!! I was hoping you would call.”
“Uhm .. Spence .. Hey..” Yeah so much for that idea. As soon as I hear her voice everything I planned goes straight out the window. “So you called again?”
“Yeah, look I wanted to know if you wanted to go out tomorrow night, get some sushi? It’ll be like old times!”
I contemplate whether or not I should go. God I want to so bad but I’m trying to be strong and live life without her. “Yeah sure Spence, I’ll go.” Again, so much for that idea.
“Great! Oh my God I am sooo excited! I’ll pick you up at around .. 7?”
“Yup sounds great. See you then.”
Without saying bye, she hangs up. Great! What did I just get myself into? I hope everything goes smoothly I really can’t take another heart break. I lay in my bed replaying all of our good times together, praying that tomorrow will be another. Eventually I fall asleep, thinking of the one girl who has been on my mind and in my dreams every night for the past two years.
