Home Sweet Home Again – (Chapter: goodnight..)

Spencer slammed her locker shut and started for the door, glad to finally be heading home.  Her first day of school had passed without a hitch, minus the slight confrontation in the lunchroom with her ex-bf.  Walking out into the sunlight, Spencer starts the short trek back to the Carlin residence.

Enjoying the heat of the midday upon her face, Spencer slants her cheeks up towards the sky and thinks about her day.  School was boring when you had no one to look forward to seeing anymore.  Two years ago it would have ruined my day to have Debbie mad at me; I’m so glad I am smarter than that now.  What a worthless friend, Spencer thought with a shake of her head.  Reaching into the side pocket of her book bag, Spencer pulled out her cell phone.

The numbers beeped and clicked as she typed in her message.

Hey Ash. I know you’re in class, but I hope you’re having a great day :) talk to you tonight!

Doesn’t hurt to remind her I’m thinking of her, Spencer thought closing her phone with a snap.  She tucked the cell back into its pocket and slung her pack over both shoulders.

                                                                _-_-_

“Hey Spence,” Arthur says from the kitchen as Spencer walks into the house.  “How was your first day? I made pasta! Come eat!” Spencer laughs as she drops her stuff on the floor.

“I swear dad, you and your cooking.” She grinned as she ripped the corner off a piece of garlic bread and stuffed it into her mouth. “My day was okay. About what I expected. How was yours?”

Arthur grabs two plates of spaghetti and moves to sit next to his daughter at the table. “Oh well it was good really.  Called the office and made sure everything was good to go fro my first day tomorrow. You want something to drink?” He asks with a smile, setting the plate in front of Spencer.

“Um no, I’m ok I think. Thanks dad.”  Spencer picked up her fork and spiraled the noodles around the end, not realizing until now how close to starved she actually was.  As always, the food is delicious.
